The present work is a compendium of Oscar Lamourt Valentín’s writings in the English language. Included are three intense essays on the nature of the Jíbaro-Boricua ethnicity and its native tongue; its survival in the Puerto Rican Archipelago and in the “Diaspora”. It is a journey through the unexplored jungles of our native culture; our native language, an ancient form of Maya. It is also about the survival of our native culture under the rule of the two most dominant empires in the New World history for the last 500 years. It is a meditation on who we are, the Jíbaros Boricuas.About the authorOscar Ignacio Lamourt Valentín (Alias Oki) was born on Lares, Puerto Rico, “Altar de la Patria”. He was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and recruited by the U.S. Army at his 18. He was stationed at Fort Ord, Texas. There he went AWOL as a concious objector to the War in Vietnam and traveled to Chiapas, where he lived some years among the Tseltal people. He learned the Maya language and returned to his motherland at the end of the 1960's. He became aware that Puerto Rican Jibaros (native peasants) were speaking the Maya tongue. Documenting this phenomenon was the initial motive of this abundant research and other works still unpublished. He discovered “the key” for the decipherment of our native “Jíbaro-Taino” foundational myths.
