Puerto Rico is a US colony since its invasion in the Spanish American War in 1898. The US Supreme Court defines the current status as "an unincorporated territory that belongs to the US but is not part of." Congress has plenary powers over the Island. Puerto Rico is being governed without the consent of the governed. The US ignores statehood pleas and rejects any revisions to current Commonwealth status. Current colonial status is undignified for the US and violates the core principles of the Founding Fathers. Puerto Rico needs to evaluate a sovereign status with close association with the US, democracy with liberties and a market economy. This book explores seven sovereign countries of the scale of Puerto Rico (population). Once they were decolonized, their countries prospered. Three of the countries were decolonized before WWII: Uruguay, New Zealand and Ireland; two after WWII: Singapore and Israel; and two after the end of the Cold War: Estonia and Slovenia.
