• LA CONTRADANZA ESPANOLA

The contradanza is the Spanish and Spanish-American version of the contradanse, an internationally popular style of music and dance from the 18th century, derived from the English country dance and adopted at the court of France. In this scholarly study, the Puerto Rican musicologist, Elías López Sobá, traces the history of this dance, its popularity in the Spanish court and its development in Spanish America where it leads to the creation of native rhythms.
